Exhibition about Michelangelo Guggenheim in the Sala Nera of Villa Monastero

Until 31st August the documentary exhibition Michelangelo Guggenheim (1837-1914): antiquarian, art dealer, furniture and decorative art objects collector and designer, curated by Alice Martignon, will be open to the public in the Sala Nera of Villa Monastero. It illustrates the figure of Moisè Michelangelo Guggenheim, the most important antiquarian and art dealer in Venice of the second half of XIX century, who designed for Walter Erich Jacob Kees the darkened walnut wood furniture that, still today, gives this room its typical atmosphere.

Through unpublished documents, photos, letters, publications, newspaper articles, objects from his collection (drawings, engravings, prints, handiworks and fabric pieces), the exposition reveals his life and work, which includes trade in antiquities and art (ancient and modern), collecting, enterprise and furniture and decorative art objects design, without excluding his role as promoter of art and industry education, expert, historian and philanthropist.

The exhibition can be visited during the opening hours of the House Museum.
