Walking in the Botanic Garden at Villa Monastero

On Sunday 23rd May and on Sunday 6th June at 4 p.m., in collaboration with Grandi Giardini Italiani, Villa Monastero will take part to the Chelsea Fringe Italia 2015 festival with two special guided walks through the Botanic Garden. The walks will lead the participants to discover the botanical species of the park, the seasonal blooming of the historic rose gardens (and of the English roses among them).

The Garden of the Villa runs for nearly 2 km along the eastern shore of Lake Como and houses more than 500 exotic and local species, with rare collections of wisterias, citrus, palm and box trees, camellias and a section devoted to perfumed essences.

Chelsea Fringe is a modern and independent gardening festival born in London in 2012 to be a concurrent alternative to the historic Chelsea Flower Show, the most important and the oldest flower exposition in the United Kingdom. The festival, totally run by volunteers, lasts 3 weeks each year and includes (simultaneously in different cities in Great Britain and all around the world) several kinds of events such as pop-up gardens, meetings, debates, installations and exhibitions, in order to show the creative and imaginative soul of gardening. The edition 2015 (from 16th May to 7th June) involves for the first time European countries such as Italy and Slovenia as well as important Australian and Japanese cities.

The walks through the garden will be free. The visitors will be asked to pay only the ticket for the access to the Garden or to the House Museum: full price ticket 8 euros (5 euros only the garden), reduced ticket (for senior visitors 65+, groups of 10+ people, Touring Club members, young people between 14 and 18 and students between 18 and 24) 4 euros (2 euros only the garden), free for children of 13 and under, visitors with disabilities, ICOM members and Varenna citizens.
