Exhibition: I Sacri Monti prealpini

On Thursday 30th  November the exhibition I Sacri Monti prealpini is going to be inaugurated in the exhibition room of Villa Monastero inVarenna. It is an interesting photographic exhibition by Marco Beck Peccoz dedicated to the representation of Sacri Monti.

The Sacri Monti of Piedmont and Lombardy are a series of nine calvaries or groups of chapels and other architectural features built in northern Italy during the late sixteenth century and the seventeenth century. They are dedicated to various aspects of the Christian faith and, because of their beauty and artistic value, in 2003 they have been acknowledged as World Heritage Sites of UNESCO.

The exhibition is composed by thirty photographic panels with some historical and artistic descriptions that show the beauty and the charm of the nine Sacri Monti.

The exhibition is promoted by Sacro Monte Varese Musei and by Fondazione Paolo VI per il Sacro Monte di Varese and has financial support of Regione Lombardia.

 

The exhibition will be open from Sunday 3rd December 2017 to Wednesday 4th April 2018 as follows:

  • On 3rd- 8th- 9th- 10th- 17th- 24th- 26th- 27th- 28th- 29th- 30th- 31st December from 10.30 am to 4.30 pm
  • On 1st- 2nd- 3rd- 4th- 5th- 6th- 7th- 14th- 21st- 28thJanuary from 10.30 am to 4.30 pm
  • On 4th- 10th- 11th- 18th - 25th February from 10.30 am to 4.30 pm
  • In Marchand until the 4th April: every day from 10.30 am to 5 pm

 

The ticket for the visit of the exhibition, of the Botanical Garden and of the House Museum costs €8,00 (€5,00 for the Botanical Garden only). The ticket for senior visitors over the age of 65, groups of 10 people or more, Italian Touring Club members, young people between 12 and 18 and students between 18 and 24 costs €5,00 (€3,00 for the Botanical Garden only). The entrance is free for children of 11 and under, disabled visitors, ICOM members, Abbonamento Musei Lombardia Milano holders and Varenna citizens.

 There are also agreements which allow visitors to benefit from other concessions.

Closing of Villa Monastero on 21st, 22nd and 23rd September 2017

On Thursday 21st, Friday 22nd and in the morning of Saturday 23rd September Villa Monastero will be closed due to a conference.
The Botanical Garden will reopen on Saturday 23rd September at 3 pm, the House Museum will reopen on Sunday 24th September at 9.30 am.

Tra lago e monti 2017 (Between lake and mountains 2017): two concerts in Villa Monastero

On Friday 25th August and Saturday 9th September the last two concerts of the 30th music festival “Tra lago e monti 2017” (Between lake and mountains 2017) will take place at Villa Monastero in Varenna.

 

Free admission/entrance on a first come first served basis.

A romantic concert and an homage to Woody Allen at Villa Monastero

On Tuesday 25th July at 9.00 pm Hanna Fridriksdottir will present her new album “It Must Be Spring” in Fermi Hall in Villa Monastero.


Free entrance on a first come first served basis.


The Botanical Garden of Villa Monastero will be open from 8.00 pm at free entrance and the bar service will be available until the beginning of the show.

 

 

The first civil wedding was celebrated at Villa Monastero

 

 

In the afternoon of Tuesday 4th July the first civil wedding was celebrated at Villa Monastero in Varenna, following the agreement signed last November by Province of Lecco and Varenna Municipality to host this kind of ceremonies.

 

The Australian couple from Canberra chose the attractive terrace in front of the lake as the place where to celebrate their wedding in a ceremony held by the Varenna councillor Simone Apicella.

 

23 guests participated in the event that was gladdened by violoncello and piano music.

At the end of the ceremony the young couple and the guests had a pleasing reception in the Botanical Garden of Villa Monastero.

Exhibition: Paesaggio e lavoro – scene di vita quotidiana (Landscape and work: scenes of everyday life)

Saturday 1st July at 5.30 pm the exhibition “Paesaggio e lavoro – scene di vita quotidiana” (Landscape and work: scenes of everyday life) in the House Museum and in the exhibition room of Villa Monastero, in Varenna, was inaugurated. It is an art route across the 19th century and includes pictures that come from many Lombard private collections.

 

The exhibition is curated by Anna Ranzi in cooperation with Art Studio Pedrazzini, and will continue until Sunday 3rd September. It can be visited during the opening days of the House Museum:

  • June and July: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and on holidays from 9.30 am to 7.00 pm
  • August: every day from 9.30 am to 7.00 pm
  • September: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and on holidays from 9.30 am to 7.00 pm

Villa Monastero: Extended opening time and days of the House Museum

The Province of Lecco decided to extend the opening time of the House Museum in Villa Monastero in June, July and September, by opening the House Museum also on Tuesday and Wednesday morning.

 

For this reason, starting from Tuesday 6th June, the new opening time of the House Museum in June, July and September will be as follows:

  • June and July: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and festive days from 9.30 am to 7.00 pm.
  • September and Sunday 1st October: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and festive days from 9.30 am to 6.00 pm.

 

The opening time in August will remain unchanged: the House Museum will be open every day from 9.30 am to 7 pm.

 

Also the opening time of the Botanical Garden remains unchanged:

  • June, July, August: every day from 9.30 am to 7.00 pm.
  • September and Sunday 1st October: every day from 9.30 am to 6 pm.

Villa Monastero regularly reopens to the public

Wednesday, March 1, Villa Monastero regularly reopens to the public; in March the Botanical Garden will be open daily from 10 am to 5 pm, the House Museum will be open every Friday, Saturday, Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm.

Exhibition of the Nativity scene in Villa Monastero.

For all the Christmas time, at Villa Monastero, a Nativity scene will be set up, which visitors can admire during the opening days from Sunday November 27th.
