Villa Monastero is "House Museum" in a special circuit desired by Lombardy Region and whit this further recognition, the Villa and the gardens will be available to the visitor that can now appreciate this historical house.
Villa Monastero, risen from the ruines of an ancient Cistercian convent, wonderfully positioned in the middle of Lake Como and surrounded by luxuriant gardens, is nowadays the seat of primary study and research activities and of important meetings and conferences taking place here all over the years.
These activities are managed and promoted by Villa Monastero Fundation. It is an instrumental autority belonging to the Province of Lecco.
An impressive and restoration work and proper repairs carried out in the latest years thanks to the cooperation of the Foundation Cassa di Risparmio delle Province Lombarde allow now a more suitable and effective utilisation of the Villa.
A foundation's aim was also to conbine the congressional activity with a plan for the Villa improvement. This program derived from the exigence of showing to the external people, who could only visit the gardens of the Villa, also the interesting inside. The view of the inner rooms of such a significant historical residence whit its late nineteenth-century look in fact was allowed only to people attending the various meetings.
At first the Fundation collected all the furnishings and objects belonging to the various collections of the Villa and that for different reasons were positioned elsewere. Then they carried on mounting 14 rooms, placing the furnishings in their original positions and, in some cases, arranging their restoration to assure them a proper preservation. The exibition tour inside the Villa was also equipped with a proper literature that allows the right interpretation of the exposed collections to the visitors.
Finally was conceived the idea to realize a guide, that is a useful instrument for the visit of the residence and of all the collections reassembled inside the rooms of the Villa.
The House Museum Villa Monastero belongs to the museum system of the Lombardy Region and is recognized as a museum collection.
