From 3 to 8 September, Villa Monastero hosted the summer school Challenges in building Billion User Cloud Applications (Buca ’23), organized by professors Alessandro Panconesi and Claudio Di Ciccio (Università Sapienza di Roma).
The school covers topics relevant to building and running billion-user cloud applications.
The instructors were prominent researchers with proven experience: Dan Ardelean (Distinguished Software Engineer at Google Cloud), Amer Diwan (Distinguished Software Engineer at Google) and JJ Furman (the founder and the creator of Megastore, a system that scaled to support applications as large as Gmail and Drive).
The school was attended by university students, doctoral students and young researchers who won during an international selection process.
Each day, there was a lecture in the morning followed by a discussion in the afternoon. In addition, students will participate in group exercises on design, paper critiquing, and code writing. For more information
