As part of the project Opera diffusa. Youth, Territory and Operatic Heritage on Lake Como, the Province of Lecco is presenting an initiative at Villa Monastero in Varenna that recalls the Japanese atmosphere evoked by Madama Butterfly and by the exhibition Japan on the Lake: Villa Monastero’s Shibayama Cabinet and Kimono from the Nancy Martin Stetson Collection, both highlights of Villa Monastero’s summer cultural programme.

Arte in punta di segno is a workshop designed for adults and dedicated to Tanabata, the Japanese Star Festival. Participants will write words and wishes using brush and Indian ink on tanzaku, the traditional paper strips, under the guidance of an expert calligrapher. They will also decorate bamboo branches and discover the meaning of this fascinating Japanese tradition.

The workshop, organized by CoopCulture in collaboration with the Miciscirube Japanese Association of Como, will take place on Sunday, 13 September, with two sessions: 10:00 AM in Italian and 12:00 PM in English.

Participation is by reservation only. The workshop fee is €10 per person, in addition to the reduced-price admission ticket to Villa Monastero.

The event also includes a short guided tour of the Japan on the Lake exhibition. This unique experience offers visitors the opportunity to explore the collections of the historic residence, admire the exotic Shibayama cabinet, and discover the precious vintage kimono from the Nancy Martin Stetson Collection. A special opportunity to experience and appreciate a fascinating and remarkable culture.
