For the bicentenary of Antonio Ghislanzoni’s birth (Lecco, 1824 – Caprino Bergamasco, 1893), the Province of Lecco will host at Villa Monastero some initiatives.

Antonio Ghislanzoni contributed to various fields. As a librettist, he worked with significant composers such as Ponchielli, Gomes, Petrella, and Catalani; Puccini e Mascagni set his lyrics in youth. Directly or indirectly, Ghislanzoni was in contact with the most important representatives of the Italian opera of the second half of the nineteenth century.

On Sunday 26th May at 16 will be the first appointment: the concert L’opera per tutti, with the Filarmonica Giuseppe Verdi of Lecco-San Giovanni directed by Mauro Bernasconi.

On Saturday 1st June at 16 in the sala Fermi of Villa Monastero will be the lectio magistralis of Emilio Sala intitled Antonio Ghislanzoni e l’umorismo musicale moderno. Emilio Sala, one of the greatest experts of 19th century Italian opera, is professor of musicology at the Università degli studi di Milano.

On Saturday 1st June at 17.30 in the Sala Fermi the Quartetto “Franco Faccio” will propose a rare programme with “Quartetto in sol maggiore” di Franco Faccio, a prominent figure of the Italian Scapigliatura. The program will end with “Crisantemi” di Puccini.

Participation in the cultural initiatives is free of charge, by paying for the entrance ticket to Villa Monastero: entrance ticket to the botanical Garden for the concert on Sunday 26th May; entrance ticket to the botanical Garden and House Museum and mandatory reservation for the initiatives on Saturday 1st June by writing an email to resmusica@alice.it.

In October will be an exhibition dedicated to a selection of letters and autographs of the writer from Lecco that belong to the Villa Monastero House Museum Archive. In addition, other in-depth activities are planned.
