The European Heritage Days this year take place on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th September. The event is promoted by the Ministry of Culture and coordinated through the Regional directorates of museums. The awareness of citizen to the heritage richness of Europe is among the aims of these days. In 2022 European Heritage Days will be celebrating Sustainable Heritage.

Villa Monastero also joins this year to the European event, with the special opening until 22 o’clock on Saturday 24th September (the last entrance at 21:15), to allow visitors the night visit of Villa Monastero for the first time.

In the House Museum there is also the exhibition “Sulle tracce del monastero, tra Cinquecento e Settecento”: an interesting series of Lombard paintings from private collections belonging to XVI-XVIII centuries.

This exposition is proposed to celebrate the 445° anniversary of the closure of the monastery of Santa Maria, the actual Villa Monastero.

The guest is involved in the atmosphere that once characterized the spaces of the former church, dedicated to Virgin Mary, whose original furniture are preserved in the parish church of San Giorgio and in the Church of Grace in Varenna.

The common motif of the paintings is the Virgin, a theme expressed over the considered centuries in various ways: with different iconography and meanings. In addition, you can find three art works dedicated to the Giudizio di Salomone (Judgment of Solomon) and the Cacciata dal tempio (Expulsion from the temple), two of which are recently donated to the Museum of Villa Monastero.

The event takes place concurrently with the initiative Ville Aperte in Brianza, which offers guided tours (in Italian only – compulsory reservation on the website www.villeaperte.info) at 10 and 11:30 on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th September.
