The dismantling of the scaffolding at Villa Monastero has been completed at the end of the restoration works of the facades and the balcony area: on Sunday 28 May the House Museum reopens to the public, after the cleaning of the interior spaces.
Visitors can admire the Villa with its new beautifully renovated facade. The requalification works of the botanical Garden, instead, continue following a schedule that considers the natural trend of the seasons, with the delimitation only of the areas affected by the work in the different periods.
On Saturday 3June from 15 to 17, and Sunday 4 June from 10 to 12, the botanical Garden will welcome children from 6 to 14 years old and their families for the initiative Appuntamento in Giardino, promoted by Apgi – Associazione Parchi e Giardini d’Italia under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture.
The children will be accompanied by experts from the Minoprio Foundation, who will describe the different environments and botanical characters, identifying the most important specimens.
This year the visit will focus on the link of the Garden with water, precisely because of the continuous and direct dialogue that the Villa has with the lake and the presence of several fountains.
At the end of the visit, there will be a practical laboratory to create a dry garden with the use of succulent plants and other materials that participants can take home.

To allow the many visitors to enjoy the beauty of the first summer evenings, Saturday, June 3 Villa Monastero has scheduled an extraordinary evening opening until 21.00 (last access at 20.15).
For the two thousandth anniversary of the birth of Plinio the Elder (2023-2024), the Province of Lecco offers three cultural walks between June and September 2023 to discover Villa Monastero, the botanical Garden, and its surroundings. The initiative is part of the project activities financed with the Pnrr M1C3 Investment 2.3.
The association of social promotion Sentiero dei Sogni is specialized in territorial narrations and mastermind of the format creative walks. It will accompany the participants on a path of narration and discovery of the territory of Varenna with three Author’s Walk go through as many ages: Roman, Medieval and Grand Tour.
Along the way will be proposed readings of authors who found inspiration in this stretch of Lake.
On Sunday 4, June at 14.30 – The first appointment L’Ottocento – Varenna Grand Tour – a walk with readings of poets, writers and musicians of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, from Villa Monastero to the lakeside of Varenna, passing through the churches of the historic center.
On Saturday 22, July at 14.30 – The second appointment L’età romana – La natura e la storia: a Varenna sulle tracce dei Plinii, a path from the botanical Garden to the source of Fiumelatte following traces of Pliny the Elder, Pliny the Younger and later authors.
On Saturday 30, September at 14.30 – The last appointment Il Medievo – Varenna anno mille, from the botanical Garden of Villa Monastero to the Vezio Castle to recall special writings and the “foundation” of Varenna.

Compulsory reservation. Participants of the event on the day of the visit can access Villa Monastero from 9.30 until 15 minutes before the start of the activity, paying directly at the ticket office at a reduced rate. The meeting for each walk will be at the loggia of Villa Monastero.
On 30, September the visit to the Castle of Vezio includes a reduced ticket of 3 euros per person to be paid at the moment to the association Sentiero dei Sogni.
