The Province of Lecco at Orticolario 2026 with a stand dedicated to Villa Monastero

From 1 to 4 October in the historic grounds of Villa Erba in Cernobbio.

The Province of Lecco will take part in Orticolario 2026, the prestigious international event dedicated to landscape, garden and nature culture, which will be held in the historic grounds of Villa Erba in Cernobbio, on Lake Como, from 1 to 4 October, with an exhibition space dedicated to Villa Monastero in Varenna, one of the most iconic sites representing the cultural and botanical heritage of the Lecco area.

Orticolario is one of Italy’s leading events for lovers of nature and contemporary gardening; every year it brings together over 250 carefully selected exhibitors from the worlds of horticulture, art, design, craftsmanship and landscape culture, offering visitors an immersive experience featuring themed gardens, art installations, conferences, workshops and cultural events.

The theme of the Province of Lecco’s stand for the 2026 edition, located in the institutional hall of the Ala Lario, is ‘In Pursuit of Cupressus sempervirens – Rediscovering the Botanical Dream’, which draws inspiration from the majestic cypress trees that characterise the Botanical Garden of Villa Monastero and represent one of its most iconic features. The project forms part of the theme chosen by Orticolario for 2026, dedicated to dreams, illusions and wonder.

The stand will take visitors on an immersive and evocative journey, conceived as an imaginary trip through the gardens of Villa Monastero, where botanical elements, natural forms and references to the tradition of the Wunderkammer intertwine in a narrative designed to inspire wonder and curiosity. Cypress trees will punctuate the exhibition space, guiding the public as they discover the details, plant collections and botanical curiosities housed in the famous garden in Varena.

The exhibition will also provide an opportunity to promote the historical, cultural and landscape heritage of Villa Monastero, showcasing its Botanical Garden, the House Museum and the numerous cultural and scientific activities that bring the complex to life throughout the year.

“Taking part in Orticolario,” comments Alessandra Hofmann, President of the Province of Lecco, “is an extraordinary opportunity to raise awareness of the Province of Lecco and Villa Monastero amongst a national and international audience with a keen interest in landscape, botany and the promotion of cultural heritage. Special thanks go to Moritz Mantero, President of Orticolario, with whom we have enjoyed a wonderful and fruitful collaboration.”

“Orticolario is a truly special opportunity to showcase some of the unique features of the Villa Monastero garden, selected by Mr and Mrs Kees – great lovers of botany – who drew inspiration from their collections in Leipzig Park and brought them to life in Varenna thanks to the mild climate of this area,” emphasises Anna Ranzi, Curator of Villa Monastero.
