After the reopening in April, the initiative “Camelie sul Lario” will take place in Villa Monastero.

Every year Camelie sul Lario, organized by Villa Monastero, Villa Carlotta of Tremezzina and Villa Melzi of Bellagio, inaugurates the season of these historic Villas on Lake Como.

Villa Monastero will show during April a small collection of camellias (two Camellia Snowball and two Camellia Lavinia Maggi Alba): they will complement the specimens already present in the garden.

Originating from China, Korea and Japan, camellias were particularly appreciated during the nineteenth century and were included in the gardens of Lake Como and Lake Maggiore for the climate particularly suitable for their flowering.

These camellias belong to the Theaceae family, from whose leaves tea is made.
