Exhibitions and cultural events 2021

The province of Lecco has planned the cultural initiatives for 2021; waiting to be able to reopen the Villa Monastero Botanical Graden and House Museum:

On the International Women's Day (March 8th), on our website and social media channels, the female figures who have characterized the history of Villa Monastero have been remembered.

From March 27th to May 9th, in the exhibition room of Villa Monastero, will take place the photographic exhibition "#scatta l’estate con ACEL Energie - A photographic contest to discover the landscapes of our territories".

In the same space, from May 15th to June 6th, will be held the photographic exhibition of Federico Wilhelm "Testa o croce".

From Saturday May 8th, to celebrate the Bicentenary of Napoleone Bonaparte’s death, there will be the opportunity to re-read the collections of the House Museum through a focus based on the neoclassical works present in the Villa Monastero Botanical garden and House Museum.

The celebrations will continue thanks to the exhibition “Tracce napoleoniche nelle collezioni lariane, tra curiosità, inediti ritratti e noti Fasti”, which will be held from September 25th to January 30th (on the occasion of the European Heritage Days), curated by the conservator Anna Ranzi and by scholars Francesco D'Alessio and Umberto Calvi.

In May, on the International Council of Museums (Giornata Internazionale dei Musei 2021 ICOM), the donation of an important handwritten parchment dating back to 1204 will be presented: it is a purchase / sale document in which it is mentioned for the first time the Cistercian female monastery of Santa Maria, founded at the end of the twelfth century, from whose seventeenth-century transformation the Villa was born. On May 21st the parchment will be offered to the public after the careful study conducted by Antonio Battaglia.

In the months of July and August will take place “Antonio Venini (1858-1941): il fascino del lago e della natura nei paesaggi varennesi”, an event dedicated to this Milanese artist whose eighty years of death are celebrated.

The cultural season will close by proposing in December and throughout the Christmas period an exhibition dedicated to an interesting painting by Leonardo Da Vinci based on a religious subject, which will help to cheer visitors during the holidays.

We also inform our kind visitors that the exhibitions currently in progress “Fiori nel vento – ventole e ventagli floreali dell’Ottocento” and “Carte in… Cantate. Antonio Ghislanzoni e Amilcare Ponchielli attraverso le lettere dell’Archivio di Villa Monastero e altri inediti documenti, con scenografie di Luigi Bartezago” have been extended until May 16th.
